How to Renew Work Permit For Your Indonesian Maid?

First, you need to go to FOMEMA Sdn Bhd to get your maid register into their system so that you can bring your maid to medical checkup and x-ray.

Where is FOMEMA Sdn Bhd? It is located at Pusat Bandar Damansara, the immigration, HELP college and other government department.

Lot G1 - G10, Level 3,
Block G (Central),
Pusat Bandar Damansara,
50490 Kuala Lumpur.
Tel: 03 - 2094 6188
Fax: 03 -2092 5610

Documents Needed:
- Prepare a bank draft of RM 190 payable to "FOMEMA SDN BHD". You can get this done at any banks.
- Bring a copy of maid's passport
- Bring original passport

Process:
- Get a form from FOMEMA
- Fill in the details
- Choose your preferable clinic/hospital for medical check & x-ray
- Register your maid
- You can bring your maid to the clinic on the next working day. Preferably you call up the clinic to make an appointment or to check doctor's availability.
- After 10 days of medical checkup, call FOMEMA at 03 - 2094 6188 and give them "Worker's Code" to check your maid medical status. You can get the "Worker's Code" details from the form given to you by FOMEMA.
- Duration: less than 30 minutes.

Notes:
- Bring PEN
- FOMEMA check-up only needed for maid for the first 3 years. If your maid stay with you for the 4th year onwards, you do not need to go to FOMEMA again. Proceed to Immigration to get the work permit directly (of course bring along the bank draft)

After you get a "PASSED" for your maid's medical status, you can proceed to PUTRAJAYA IMMIGRATION to get the permit. Yeah, I'm saying PUTRAJAYA and some of you might be asking why not at PUSAT BANDAR DAMANSARA. Yeah, I know also but hoh, Malaysia have 2 sets of working procedure.

If you wanted to do the permit renewal at PUSAT BANDAR DAMANSARA, then you need to have I-Card for your maid. To do I-Card, you need to bring your maid to PUSAT BANDAR DAMANSARA with 1x passport size photo with WHITE BACKGROUND. My maid don't have I-Card so I have to go to PUTRAJAYA where they don't require I-Card. Bravo Malaysia.

Where is IMMIGRATION OF MALAYSIA IN PUTRAJAYA?

Ibu Pejabat Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia
(Kementerian Dalam Negeri)
Tingkat 1-7, (Podium) No 15, Persiaran Perdana, Presint 2,
62550 Putrajaya, WILAYAH PERSEKUTUAN.
Tel: 03 - 8880 1000
Fax: 03 - 8880 1200

Documents Needed:
- 1 bank draft of RM 445 payable to KETUA PENGARAH IMIGRESEN MALAYSIA. (notes if you opt to go to PUSAT BANDAR DAMANSARA then this bank draft have to be made payable to PENGARAH IMIGRESEN NEGERI WILAYAH PERSEKUTUAN)
- 1 copy of passport
- Bring original passport

Process:
- Get your queue number
- Pass the passport to the immigration officer to register
- Make payment at payment counter
- Get your permit sticker from another counter. (I waste most of the time at this counter. Waiting .. waiting .. waiting ....)
- Duration: less than 40 minutes

Notes:
- From my observations, we can reduce all the red-tapes by having the registration, payment and sticker printing in one counter rather than counter hopping.
- Having more officer to serve the public

So folks, if you have time, you should go renew the work permit yourself since it is not too much of hassle. Those bloody agency is trying to squeeze out your hard earned money.

Update 21 Apr 2010
---------------------
I just went to renew my maid's work permit at Putrajaya Immigration this morning. Fantastic, awesome. I reached there at around 9.20am. Got my things done in only 10 MINUTES !!!! Yes, it is that fast. Kudos to Swe Yin and P. Malaya, you guys deserved my respect for serving with dignity. Kudos to Immigration Department for Foreign Workers Unit.

I do reserved some comments for the cashier at Counter 2 this morning. Please be more courteous. Show some respects to the rakyat. If you so hate your job, change job. Don't show your dissatisfaction to the rakyat.

Update 19 May 2011
---------------------
Just went to Putrajaya to renew my maid's permit. Well something has changed.

- Maid no longer need to be present for permit renewal. It was needed in 2010 but they changed the rule again. Now in 2011, no need.
- Only employer/spouse (bring your marriage certificate) can renew the work permit. No proxy (third party) is allowed.
- RM 445 bank draft payable to "Ketua Pengarah Imigresen Malaysia"
- Old and New passport (if you have just renewed the passport.)

Update 18 Apr 2012
----------------------
I've just renew my maid's work permit via http://www.myeg.com.my/

- Very easy, just fill up the online form and pay by either credit card / online banking like maybank2u.
- Please have your maid's passport ready because you need the passport number and maid's DOB as part of the information.
- Levy charges has increased from RM 360 to RM 410. Other charges remain the same.
- Additional RM 38 as processing fees charged by MyEg. Well considering that if you need to take leave and drive all the way to Immigration office, parking fees and the waiting time. I guess RM 38 is quite reasonable.
- The breakdown of the charges:

Pass Charge: RM 60
Visa Charge: RM 15
Levy Charge: RM 410
Process Charge: RM 10
e-Services Charge: RM 38

Total: RM 533.00 (Previously was RM 445, now additional RM 50 (Levy) + RM 38 (e-services charges) which makes it RM 533. )

Thank u for this information. Is this protocol up to date ? There is not posting date (year). TQ anyway

Good day Anon

If you scroll further up to the blog entry, you could see date of posting is May 18, 2009.

Anyway, I just helped my sister to renew her maid FOMEMA. The process is the same.

I wish to hire a maid whose existing employer hired a new Cambodian maid and decided to send her back to Indo. Is it possible to do so, means change of employer.

Alex Yap said...

Good day Anon

FYI, I'm not a maid agent. For your case to change employer, I believe can. Just that you need to pay the levy and medical check up once more.

I suggest that you call to Putrajaya to find out more.

i read from some other blog that it is better that we don't go on Monday/Friday as it is super crowded.

How long, I would say it probably take you half day from 8am to 12pm to get it done.

UncleHo said...

Hello Alex,

For the payment of work permit or levy, can we do it by cash payment to the counter at putrajaya immigration? If we are buying bank draft and the figures change then obviously it is a hassle for us.

Thanks for your reply.

Alex Yap said...

UncleHo

No cash transaction I believe. The last time I called to Putrajaya, they specifically mentioned to me that I must buy bank draft of RM 445. As of earlier this year, around May, the amount haven't change. It is still RM 445.

UncleHo said...

Thanks Alex. I'll call them to ask if there is changes on the rate.

Thank you for your posting. It helps a lot.

Glad that the information helps. I was freaking lost when I first trying to renew the permit for my maid, so I hope others won't suffer the same fate as me.

Hi, Alex, This is Daphne.
Because of the currently changing procedure of the application of maid, I would like to ask some question. I hope u can help me out here.

My kakak is currently in indonesia, She went back around August 2nd, and her work permit actually ended on the 4th of August 2010.

We are not too sure whether she decide to come back or not, therefore we did not renew the permit.

Lately, I received her call, that she decided to come back. however, her permit has already expired approximately 3 months ago, and her passport is expiring on Jun 20 2012.

What should i do?
I hope u can tell me who should i talk to on this matter. (I know u are no maid agent (:)
She has been working with us more than 5 years.

Thanks in advance

What I really need to know is, becos I will be going the Johor Baru immigration, my bank draft shld address as such: 'Pengarah Imigresen Negeri Johor', am I right? Pls advise me I have been serching high and low for the answer, when I call the immg. it's always busy. it's quite urgent actually. Thankyou for your time.

Thanks for your prompt reply. I have another question(pei sei). Do you know anything about the lastest Thumprint thing? The newspaper is saying 1 thing and the people is saying another. An agent friend told me that house maid don't need to join the Thumprint thing, you know anything about this?
I m from Johor, that's the reason I call the immegretion here. About the extention of the work permit I'llbe doing it tomorrow and see how it goes too on the Thumprint.
Thanks for comfriming the addresses to.

I also tried to find out the thumbprint thingy this morning.

As usual our bloody government is that stupid.

This idea was from Home Ministry, so I called to Home Ministry to find out and then they just ping pong me to Immigration. I called Immigration, no one pick up and I fed up with BARISAN NASIONAL !!!!

I found this from Immigration webpage

http://www.imi.gov.my/images/stories/keratan_akhbar/star%2015%20jul%2011%20eng.pdf

So I'm holding immigration for any responsibilities that might arise.

I got a reply from http://www.maidagencymalaysia.com.my that immigration haven't decided on domestic maid registration.

One thing I really don't understand. Isn't that our domestic maid already being registered at the moment we get the work permit. Why can't they get the information from the existing database instead needed us to go to immigration office again.

Malaysia is really BOLEH-land. Stupid.

First of all, thanks for the info in details. Do u know if i would like to extend my maid for another 3 mths only, do i need to register for FOMEMA?

Alex Yap said...

Adiel

I believe you have to, if your maid is with you for less than 3 years.

After 3 mths, you need to go to immigration office to cancel the permit if you don't need her anymore.

Lawrence said...

Just did the renewal at Pusat Bdr D'sara this morning. Went in at 9.30 and went out at 10.30.

Go to Block G, 3rd floor, counter #1. Tell the officer you want to renew permit, and get a number.

Then wait for your turn. After that go straight to Juru Wang counter to pay for the fees. No numbers, just queue.

Then pass the passport to counter #1, and wait. Finally, when the office calls your name, pick up and inspect the permit. That's all!!

No one check the maid's ID card. Or perhaps it is already inside their system? So I cannot verify if you need to have an ID card or not. But I guess it is worth a try if you are not staying near PJ, Putrajaya I mean.

Can pay by cash, no need bank draft. It is RM495 now. Increased RM50 since Sept 1st.

Alex Yap said...

Lawrence,

Thanks for the latest update.

Levy increase by RM 50 hor, money money.

Wow, PBD no need Bank draft, that is convenient. Bank draft need to pay the bank commission.

Lawrence said...

Also, we know that in order to renew the passport, we need to buy insurance in Malaysia. After the maid goes back to Indonesia (say for holiday), when they want to come back here to work, they also need to buy their Indonesian insurance. And it cost RP500,000.

And when they go home, kindly arrange for them to buy KL-Jakarta-Home town tickets. Unless your maid do not have to go jakarta for the transit, eg. KL-Medan. If you leave them KL-Jakarta, then their local govt agencies will force them to buy their own local travel agencies' tickets, which cost a bom. Eg. travel by car from Jakarta to Lampung is RP500,000, while you can just take the local bus which is RP120,000 (business class). However, they won't let you out from the airport unless you pay them, or somehow escape from them and get to the bus station.

Alex Yap said...

Lawrence, thank you for the useful info.

I'm planning to let my maid go back for holiday as well.

My goodness, Rp 500 000 is about RM 200. For RM 200 we can fly from Penang to KL or take skybus from KL to Singapore liao.

Lawrence said...

When she comes back to Malaysia, she has to apply for a KTKLN. So she has to go to the airport extra extra early, in case there is a long queue. Pay up, and then be ready to board. It ain't as easy as getting a boarding pass and pay tax no more. Google around for KTKLN. Gd luck.

I have benefitted tremendously from reading various blogs giving step by step procedure in the renewal of work permit for my maid. As such, it is only apt for me to share the latest with the the rest so that they too can benefit from the blog. By doing my maid's work permit renewal myself, I saved close to RM 700 from some unscrupulous agents who charge a fee of RM 1,400. Just like what some blog mentioned, it is easy. Download a form from fomema website, fill it up, buy a bankdraft of RM 190, photocopy your maid's passport, bring along the original passport and work permit, go to fomema's office, submit all the above documents and you will be given in return another form to be taken to a clinic. Take your maid to the specific clinic, do the x ray and blood test and wait for the result in a few days which can be obtained via online. Once, the result is okay, just go straight to the immigration office in KL ( new office near the new Istana in Jalan Sri Hartamas) with your maid's passport ( no need for maid's ID card ) and pay RM 516 in cash ( for filipino maid ).Then wait for the permit from the officer. Waiting time at the immigration office is 15 minutes for everything to be done. Waiting time at Fomema office is about 20 minutes. Waiting time at the clinic for the x ray and blood test is about 30 minutes, depending on the patients the clinic has. Here you go, easy as abc and don't let agents frighten you of the procedures. Kudos to the immigration officers in KL for being so efficient. Some immigration offices don't accept maid's work permit renewal. Some do but Putrajaya don"t accept cash. Need a bankdraft or money order made out to Ketua Pengarah Immigresen. Other state immigration office, the bankdraft payee may be different name. Go to immigration website , get the office telephone number and give them a call to find out.

By the way, you can try to renew the work permit from http://www.myeg.com.my/

This is good sharing. Thank you.

You mentioned earlier that if I want to send maid back to Indonesia for holiday, we have to write a letter saying that we have given permission to the maid to go back for holiday. And state the return date.

Is there any official format for this letter? Whom do we direct the letter to?

I am sending my maid back for holidays this May and would like to know what to do. Do you know if the maid will face any problem when she returns to Malaysia from Indonesia? Does she need to pay any *bribe* or something? Thanks.

Alex Yap said...

Good day Anon

My sister let her maid back to Indonesia for holiday and came back without hassle.

Just a simple formal letter to whom it may concern.

No bribe is needed when they are to be back.

It will be good if you can get a phone number where you can find your maid when she is back to Indonesia.

Hi, my Indonesian maid is going to work for the 4th year. If I planning to use My EG to renew her permit, do I need to buy any insurance? And is she doesn't need to do medical check up? Before using My EG, do I need any scanned of passport or permit? Thank you.

Alex Yap said...

Daniel

For the 4th yrs onwards, you don't need to go through FOMEMA.

Insurance is needed if you going to renew her passport. Indonesian embassy enforced the requirement for any passport renewals. You can get maid insurance from Post office for RM 85 for 2 yrs.

To renew permit via MyEg, only applicable to non-new passport, ie: if you have just renewed the passport and the passport was never registered with Immigration of Malaysia, then permit renewal can only be done over the counter. My sister experience this.

MyEg services was efficient in collecting the passport but till now 2 weeks already, I still haven't received the passport from MyEg. Gonna give them a call tomorrow to find out.

Daniel said...

Thanks for your information Alex.

This is my first time using My EG.

Is the process as below?
1. I summit details and pay using M2U at My EG website.
2. My EG will comes to my house to collect maid's original passport (any photo needed?)
3. Once the permit is renewed, My EG will return the passport and new permit to me at my house.

Is no any insurance needed if my maid passport still active for the next 2 years?

What is the total cost by using My EG service to renew maid working permit? Thank you.

Hi Alex,Thanks for all your sharing. If my maid's permit is expiring after a year, what is the procedure for Fomema? Do we do Fomema first or renew on MyEg first? Thanks much!! Ms Chen

Alex Yap said...

Good day Ms Chen

If you login to MyEg, under Jabatan Imigrisen Malaysia, the drop down box show either employer do FOMEMA themselves or MyEg can help to do the registration.

Even MyEg do the registration on Employer behalf, Employer will still need to bring the maid to the designated clinic to do the checkup. So I will suggest, do it yourself.

Back to your question: FOMEMA has to be completed before we can apply for the work permit.

Hi, Alex. When did your maid went back for holidays? Did she applied KTKLN when she came back to Malaysia? Thank you.

"Yes, starting June 2011, maids who go back to Indonesia for holiday but plan to re-enter Malaysia need KTKLN. It's an identification card for all working out of country. As far as I know, it's not easy to obtain the KTKLN especially if your maid is not educated because she need to fill up some forms and make payment before she can apply for one at the airport (only in Jakarta and Surabaya airports) or other stated venue here (http://ktkln.bnp2tki.go.id/lokasi_ktkln.pdf). Employers also need to buy insurance for the maid before she is allowed to apply for the KTKLN.

My maid has gone back to Indonesia and back again to Malaysia somewhere last year but she has not been asked for the KTKLN. Maybe she's lucky. Anyway, for maids who is already here and would like to go back for a short trip, please help her to apply online here at http://ktkln.bnp2tki.go.id/tkiprof.htm

However, payment of USD15 for this (it's called DP3KTI payment) must be made in Indonesia at the locations listed here ==> http://ktkln.bnp2tki.go.id/lokasi_ktkln.pdf"

fyi, i went to KDN jalan duta, the 1 behind our new istana. Pusat Bandar Damansara immigration is closed n relocated here.

DT said...

This is a great site! Just want to share as well. I went to renew my maids work permit at Jln Duta KDN 2 weeks back only to be told that it was expired for 3 months (my wife handles the maids details and she mistakenly saw the wrong dates...I won't dwell into this here :) and was now considered a 'overstay' case. I had to write a appeal letter there and then and the officer told me to come back after 7 working days. They will then issue you a 'letter' stating the maids case number.
I went back after 6 working days and went to the highest floor (where you will notice a lot of foreign workers standing outside). Just walk past them and go in to the counters straight away and pass the officer the 'letter' they gave you in regards to your maids case. The officer saw it and said, "ok. you are lucky it's less then 3 months or not I will tell you to send back your maid for good." I explained the situation and she took pity on me and said, "ok. you wait another 7 days and come back to settle the compound then". I did so and went this morning. Total compound charges is RM1k
+ RM100 for 'special sticker'. Then she said come tomorrow to collect passport. Tomorrow I will go collect the passport and then proceed to the renewal of work permit. Phew...I think i'm gonna change my IC to the new one as well since I will be there again...:)

Alex Yap said...

Good day DT

Ouch 1K in penalty ya. This is on top of the RM 495 for the permit right.

Good that the maid still can work here else, you will have to go through all the hassle again.

Hi, my maid's permit is expiring soon, and I have to renew it. But before I do that, I need to bring her to the Indonesian embassy to renew her passport. I've been told by my agent that now, the embassy wants to see the maid's total salary in a bank account under her name only. Up till now, I've always banked in her monthly salary into an account under our joint names. According to the agent, the embassy will reject this, so I have to open an account under my maid's name only and transfer all the money there. Also, I have to give a written account of where all her money is (e.g. kirim balik, or used for personal expenses like handphone, etc) and my maid must sign to confirm it. My question is, has anyone heard about these two rules? Must open sole account for the maid?

Hi Alex, I hope someone can help me solve this problem. My maid has worked with me for 7 years and I have diligently renewed her work permit promptly every year. She has days off and holds her own passport. She now realized that her work permit expired on 3rd May 2012. How can I go about solving this problem and will there be any implications and penalty involved.

Can I renew her permit in Shah Alam where I normally do every year? Please help.

Good day Jo,

HI Alex,

Just for your information, it seems that there's a new ruling in Indonesia where maids going back to Indonesia for a holiday would need to go to Semarang before they return to Malaysia for endorsement purposes. My aunty's maid had to go to Semarang before she was allowed to return to Malaysia and this cost around 1.8 juta rupiah which is a lot of money.

My maid was also asked to do the same before she returns to Malaysia after Hari Raya.

Could you check if there is such ruling now in Indonesia?

Hi. I'd just like to share my experience for the benefit of everyone.

My maid's permit is expiring in Aug 2012, while her passport will expire in May 2013.

I was advised by Immigration to renew the permit up until May 2013 only. Therefore, payment for permit will be prorated (I would only pay for about 10 months). Payment will be calculated for me and I can pay by cash for this instance at the immigration counter

After renew permit, then I should go about with the hassle of renewing her passport.

Wish me luck!

Anis

Good day Pn Sia

If you login to MyEg, under Jabatan Imigrisen Malaysia, the drop down box show either employer do FOMEMA themselves or MyEg can help to do the registration.

Even MyEg do the registration on Employer behalf, Employer will still need to bring the maid to the designated clinic to do the checkup. So I will suggest, do it yourself.

You better check with Immigration of Malaysia department. Theoretically you should pay levy for 1 person.

My maid is going back for good. And her permit expired in nov2012. Would like to know the procedure? Book the air ticket , and go to immigration to cancel her permit? The maid need to go along for the cancellation? Or can I just send her back without the cancellation since the permit will be expired by then? Thanks

Alex Yap said...

Good day Anon

Say that your maid permit expired on 15 Nov 2012. And you sending her back on 15 Nov 2012 itself, I guess you won't need to do the permit cancellation. But if you are sending her back earlier than that, I suggest that you better cancel it because the maid can re-enter malaysia before the expiry date.

Hi i just want to share some tips for maid's passport renewal at indonesian embassy. Be there before 7am to queue up. They run out of forms like by 9am. (They allow employers with baby to cut queue). 1st queue up to get forms (need to present original passport). 2nd queue to get number, but they may asked the blue (details on the passport) and 3 copies of work contract to be filled up. 3rd queue up for in-house photo (passport, 2x copies of employer's IC, 3x contract that just filled up, 1 copy of current passport, 1copy of current permit, 2x copies of insurance cover letter). For step 1-3 employer not required. Then 4th queue is when number will be called to counter with all docs to be submitted along with RM18 for new passport, both maid and employer are required. 5th queue is to pick up the new passport. Step 1-3 about 1-2 hrs, step 4-5 about 3 hrs.

Hi Alex,

My question is, I have a contract valid till Sept 2013. Do I need to make another contract for her to extend further prior renewing the work permit. Further, I read that
in Indonesia, maids are required to apply for KTKLN (Kartu Tenanga Kerja Luar Negari)for them to work out of country and in order to that they need a certified contract from Indonesian Embassy. Is this true and if yes how to process this requirement.

Hi I wonder if you can help me coz I have conflicting info re: maid going home mid term for a break. My maid contract only expires next Jan2014 but she wants to go back this end of may or 2 weeks which I am ok with. I thought it was simple just to buy return ticket as long as she has her work permit . Anyway, now agent tells me she has to go to get a stamp at the embassy (?indon) before leaving and he did not mention anything about this KTKLN card. So what exactly is the proper procedure so that she can go and come back. She also came in on the J pass which got converted to work permit here , is that a prob? Thank you in advance for your help. BTW, I live in Perak.

Hi Alex,

I "bump" into your blog on searching for maid's leave letter & saw one of your replies with the sample format. Thank you very much!

May I ask 2 questions?

(1) When the maid comes back after her leave from Indonesia. Does she need to purchase a "permit" from Indonesia airport?

(2) I need to purchase insurance for the maid to go back now. Is it insurance to cover the maid in Indonesia that need to be bought at the Indonesia Embassy?
(a) Can this be bought online?
(b) Do I have to bring the maid personally to the Indonesia Embassy to purchase the insurance?
(c) Or is it insurance is needed ONLY for passport renewal? It seems that my maid is coming back to Malaysia on 2nd Sept. 2013, and her passport due date is "ngam ngam" 6 months i.e. 2nd Mar. 2014.

Sorry, I'm a little bit confused with all these stuff. I'd be grateful if you are able to guide me on the issues above.

Hi Alex
Could you give me some information on how to renew my Cambodian maid's passport and work permit? Her work permit expires on Aug. 2014 . Her passport expires on Aug 2015.
She would like to stay here one more year. (She has been with me for 4 years.)
-Do I have to bring her to the Cambodian Embassy to renew her passport?(we are staying in Penang)
- For her work permit, do I follow the same application procedure as that of the Indonesian maid? ie
I have to go to the IBU PEJABAT JABATAN IMIGRESEN MALAYSIA to hand in the bank draft?
- Has the levy fee gone up? I paid RM500 last year.
The agency is charging me RM2000 if I let them handle it.

Would very much appreciate your help.

[LX] - Sounds like you don't need to renew the passport if the last day is still valid.

She would like to stay here one more year. (She has been with me for 4 years.)
-Do I have to bring her to the Cambodian Embassy to renew her passport?(we are staying in Penang)

[LX] - you better call up to immigration to get a confirmation on this cause most country required a valid passport up to 6 months of stay.

- For her work permit, do I follow the same application procedure as that of the Indonesian maid? ie
I have to go to the IBU PEJABAT JABATAN IMIGRESEN MALAYSIA to hand in the bank draft?

[LX] - Sorry Marie, I'm not sure of the current price. You need to call the IMMI to find out.

The agency is charging me RM2000 if I let them handle it.

Hi Alex,

Great write-up.
I got to know that the maid agency will almost charge an extra 500 to 700 to renew work permits.

I am planning to use myeg to renew my Filipino maid's permit because we are located in Penang and will be troublesome to go to KL for the FOMEMA thingy.

Care to ask, if the maid only plans to work for another extra 5mths after the expiry of her permit, can I renew the permit to that actual period, or 6mths? Instead of a full year. And will the charges be lesser?

Kind regards~~~

Alex Yap said...

Hi Fobs,

I'm not sure if you can apply permit for just 5 months. But I do know that you have to cancel the permit if they leave early. Cancellation will incur some charges.

Btw, the charges has been increased already

Pass Charge/Caj Pas RM 60

Levy Charge/Caj Levi RM 410
Process Charge/Caj Proses RM 125

Hi Nic

It is illegal to hold up maid's passport but if she agreed, then no harm. If not I will choose to open a safe box at bank where both signature is required to retrieve the contents. So nobody can argue.

To Chow, I don't know honestly. Since the embassy said you can renew with them, why not do it.

You can renew the permit yourself.

Your maid will need to go FOMEMA to get body checkup. Then you can go to immigration to renew the permit. Read my post on what to do. I have listed down the FOMEMA and immigration procedures.

Good luck.
