Quality: Proton launches 'zero defect' campaign

It was reported in NST,

Proton (Malaysia Car Manufacturer) managing director Syed Zainal Abidin is launching "Zero Defect" campaign. Obviously this MD of Proton knows very little about quality control.

The arguement is:
  1. How can a product line be "Zero Defect"? Although as claimed by ZD concept founder Dr Philip B. Crosby, this method is inexpensive but many observers doubt it where it involved extreme cost in meeting the standard.
  2. Proton should be more realistic by at least meeting Six-Sigma before looking at ZD. Even six-sigma allows 3.4 DPMO (Defective Parts Per Million Opportunities), hence let's be realistic rather than overly ambitious.
